The DayStar Instruments Combo Quark Hydrogen-alpha Eyepiece for SCT, Maksutov & ~f/15 refractors allows users to experience incredible views with their telescope of choice for a fraction of the cost of competing, purpose-built Solar telescopes.
To prevent damage to your telescope, the Quark must be used with an appropriate energy rejection filter (sold separately). For refractors under 120mm of aperture, a screw-in UV/IR-cut filter can be used if placed in front of the telescope diagonal. Do not use a UV/IR-cut filter with oil-spaced objectives or any telescope with an integrated field flattener or Petzval lens. The UV/IR-cut filter must be the first optical element to receive concentrated light.
For telescopes which do not fit the above specifications, you must purchase a DayStar energy rejection filter to fit your particular telescope.
The Combo Quark is available in either Prominence or Chromosphere versions, depending on your goals.
The Chromosphere version features a bandpass between 0.5 - 0.3Å, making it the perfect choice for viewing surface detail, although prominences will still be visible.
The Prominence version has a bandpass of 0.8 - 0.6Å, which will deliver bright, high-contrast views of prominences against a jet black sky.
For use on SCTs, Maks, or refractors of F/15 to F/30. The user needn't worry about configurations. Just insert Quark in your diagonal, add an eyepiece and view.
• SCT and Mak users need to purchase an Energy Rejection Filter specific to their telescope for safe operation.
• SCT owners must employ a front mount, off-axis, aperture reduced Energy Rejection Filter (ERF) in order to achieve optimum performance. This front mount ERF will generate a slower focal ratio through aperture reduction while preventing heat build-up in the optical tube assembly.
• Maktsutov owners who operate at a native ~F/15 focal ratio do not need to reduce the aperture of the telescope, but must use front mount energy rejection to prevent overheating of the optical tube assembly.
Differently from the classic Daystar QUARK, the combo does not contains a telecentric barlow so if the focal ratio of your SCT or Maksutov is less than f/15, we recommend to use a separate in order to reach the required focal ratio.
Daystar even reduced power consumption, so the Quark can now operate all day off a small, palm-sized optional battery pack. Baffles have been added to increase contrast and AR coatings are optimized for the 656nm wavelength.
The QUARK assembly is a product of DayStar Instruments, using DayStar Filters' Fabry Perot etalon technology.
